A 25-acre farm at Ross, Tara, Co Meath, which included a two-storey farmhouse and substantial farmyard, made €80,000 over its guide at public auction last week. Auctioneer Stephen Barry of Raymond Potterton Auctioneers, Navan, described the atmosphere on the day in the auction room as “electric” with the sale done and dusted within minutes.

The compact 25-acre farm at Ross, Tara, was offered in one lot before a packed auction room last Thursday with bidding for the property opening at €400,000. Four individual parties carried the bidding along with offers rising €10,000 a time until bidding reached €460,000. From here on in, the offers from the floor increased €5,000 at a time but the pace of the offers remained brisk.

After an offer of €520,000, the farm was placed on the market. The offers kept coming before the farm was eventually knocked down to a Meath native with farming and equine interests for €560,000, well in excess of the €480,000 guide price.

40 acres at Delvin

On the same day, Raymond Potterton auctioneers had less luck at auction when offering a 40-acre farm situated at Martinstown, Delvin, Co Westmeath. After opening at €280,000, the non-residential grass farm was bid to just €300,000 before being withdrawn.
