Elphin mart saw a phenomenal trade for bull weanlings at Monday’s show and sale. 234 calves were present, with high quality cattle met with high end prices and an overall clearance rate of 96%.
A small showing of bulls under 300kg met with an average price of €6.18/kg, while the majority on bulls on offer sat in the 300-400kg weight bracket. These lots recorded and impressive average of €5.72/kg, with the top and bottom third of bulls of this weight averaging €6.48/kg and €4.98/kg respectively.
Good numbers of heavier bulls were also present on the day. 56 bulls weighing between 400-450kg recorded a strong average of €5.40/kg, while the top third of bulls in this weight sold to an average of €6.01/kg. 33 bulls also tipped the sale at over 450kg, with these averaging €5.12/kg.
Top call of the day went to the overall champion of the show, a Limousin-cross bull born April 2025 weighing 535kg that sold for €3,500 (€6.54/kg) as seen in the video above.
