Food economist Ciaran Fitzgerald suggests money from the dairy industry exports stays in rural Ireland unlike other sectors.

A paper prepared for Teagasc food economist Ciarán Fitzgerald suggests “every €1 of exports represents a 90c spend within the Irish economy”. In contrast Fitzgerald states the equivalent figure for the multinational sector is for every €1 of exports, only 10c stays in the Irish economy.
Additionally, Fitzgerald maintains given the growth in the dairy sector the huge spend by the dairy industry on raw materials, wages, and services now accounts for almost 10% of spending by all Irish industry.
The hugely positive impact of the dairy sector in rural Ireland will be discussed in detail by Ciarán Fitzgerald at the Moorepark Open Day on Wednesday 3 July.
