Milk production from New Zealand dairy farms continues its robust start to the 2018/19 milking season, with October milk flows up by 6% on last year. New figures from the Dairy Companies Association of New Zealand (DCANZ), shows October milk production in New Zealand stood at just under 3.2bn litres.
For the first five months of the 2018/19 milking season (June-October), New Zealand milk production now stands at a combined 7.6bn litres, – 5.8% ahead of the same period last year.
October is the peak milk production month in New Zealand and equivalent to May milk collections in Ireland. The strong start to the 2018/19 milking season in New Zealand will be a concern for dairy markets as New Zealand accounts for 50% of global dairy exports.
