There are more than 300,000 people employed in State services in the Republic of Ireland. The Irish language has always been valued in public sector jobs, especially in Gaeltacht areas and in the health and education sectors. Under the Official Languages (Amendment) Act 2021, 20% of new recruits to the public service must be competent in Irish by the end of 2030. With this in mind, there is going to be an increase in the demand for employees across the public sector speaking fluent Irish.
