War in Ukraine
An Irishman running a 4,500ha farm in Ukraine told the Irish Farmers Journal in April that, despite the war, he's not trying to get out.
Jonathan Clibborn, an Irish man whose wife and three boys live in Clogheen, Co Tipperary, says he is “doubling down” on investing in their 4,500ha farm west of Lviv, Ukraine, to "help get Ukraine up and running and producing again”.
He says the need to replace agricultural infrastructure destroyed by Russian forces in the east and south of the country will be “extremely important for Ukraine”. Read more here.

Ukrainian farmers called for western countries to unblock and protect the country's sea ports so they could export their grain.
Some 30m tonnes of grain is sitting in Ukrainian silos and storage units “just waiting and spoiling”, according to director general of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UCAB) Roman Slaston.
He described how only very small volumes of grain are passing through the Romanian and Polish land borders on a daily basis.
In all, he said there are only 10 railway routes suitable and available for grain exports. Read more here.

Turf ban
Minister for Transport and leader of the Green Party Eamon Ryan.\ Philip Doyle
Minister Eamon Ryan planned to ban the sale and distribution of turf from September.
The regulations proposed by the Green Party leader would allow those with rights to harvest sod peat to use the fuel to burn in their own fires, but it would prohibit them from selling or even giving this turf to family, friends or neighbours, outside of their own dwelling.
The suggestion provoked fury in rural quarters - read more here.
